UKIYO is more than a name. It is a mindset.
Rooted in the Japanese concept of “the floating world,” UKIYO speaks to the power of presence. Of finding peace in movement. Of letting go of what’s behind or ahead and choosing to be fully here.
This collection comes from a chapter of deep reflection. One where I finally paused, took a breath, and allowed myself to recognise how far I’ve come.
As dancers, performers, and creatives, we are constantly chasing improvement. Pushing goals. Expanding dreams. But sometimes, real strength lies in the stillness, in choosing to be grounded, even for a moment.
Sakura-Inspired: The Beauty of Now
The cherry blossom, or Sakura, sits at the heart of this collection. It symbolises renewal, growth, and the fleeting nature of beauty.
During a trip to Singapore, I visited the Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay. It was early in the journey of Chapter19, and I found myself drawn to the Sakura tree. It blooms in breathtaking beauty, only to fall moments later. It reminded me of something I had been learning slowly and often the hard way.
You cannot hold on to every moment. But you can choose to be present for it.
The UKIYO collection is an expression of that feeling.
A reminder to pause. To reflect. To acknowledge your journey and everything you have overcome to be here.
Why This Collection Matters to Me
I have always been driven. Focused. Always looking to what is next. But in the process, I often forget to stop and celebrate the chapters I have already written. I want this collection to be a reminder, for me, and for you, that presence is powerful.
